How to evaluate quality & durability?

In order to know the life-expectancy of a fabric before buying your sofa, there is a test that allows you to know the durability of any fabric. A brief explanation:

The MARTINDALE test simulates natural wear. The MARTINDALE machine has wheels that rotate on the tested fabric and determines the number of revolutions before which the fibers yield.

This test is essential if you are to make an informed purchase of a sofa or an armchair. Among the sofas on sale today, there are many low-end fabrics with a life-expectancy of between 6 and 24 months. This is the case for many major brands. Many suppliers avoid informing the client of a sofa fabric’s Martindale rating.

Our choice is to offer only quality fabrics. For every fabric on offer with our sofas, its MARTINDALE rating is indicated. Our fabrics have scores that range from 20,000 and 200,000. Any fabric with a rating above 35 000 will endure not for years, but for decades. Here are examples that put these ratings into context :

• Fabrics for normal domestic use (sofas, armchairs, chairs), with “short life”: ratings 10,000 to 15,000
• Domestic fabrics, with life-expectancy of 5 to 10 years : 15,000 to 20,000
• Fabric for very intensive use / “long life”: 25,000 and above
